A drama set one year after the end of World War II. Orombelli, an ex-military man, returns home to his wife. She owns a luxurious mansion on Lake Maggiore, but is a difficult, authoritarian person. In search of new adventures, he goes on an outing on the lake with Maffei, a young yachtsman, and his beautiful sister-in-law. Orombelli does not know how to deal with this charming, sensual woman, the cause of jealousy and conflict in the group. Things take an unexpected turn with the sudden death of Orombelli`s wife. Human relationships here are like a microcosm of a disoriented society.
