Rio de Janeiro, the ‚Äô60s. The city is preparing itself for a visit from Queen Elizabeth. A tense social and political atmosphere is brewing before the military coup. A journalist is investigating the death of several homeless people and becomes involved in a dangerous game of political interests. The government and the police are carrying out “Operation Street Cleansing”, with the aim of “cleaning up” the city for the Queen’ visit. The beggars are tortured and thrown into the Guandu River. Policemen and civil servants from Guanabara are charged. With the coup in ‚Äô64, investigations are shelved and the episode is erased from Brazil’ history. Adapted from a play by Chilean playwright Jorge Diaz, based on stories published in the international press.
