Bruno Stroszek spent his childhood in hostels and his adolescence in reformatories. As an adult, he spends much of his time in prison because of his constant drinking. Together with two friends - a prostitute and an eccentric musician - he decides to try his luck in America. There, the temptations of consumerism lead to new disappointments and reflections on the non-existence of an ideal world.
