Guilty of homicide and of ommission in rendering aid, a brilliant young architect, Vanzi, is confined to prison. He has to face the violence of his cell mates and is astonished at the hard prison rules and the modes of repression on the part of the guards. He is not slow in understanding that, in jail, what really counts are money and protection from the powerful. But his fate is already sealed.
