The film follows along with the military service of 70 youngsters in the Parachute Brigade in military barracks on the west side of Rio de Janeiro. The result is a film on being in the army without being a film on the institution itself. A view of life for eighteen-year-olds, away from home for the first time, having to adapt to an orderly institution in a country where institutions and order basically count for little.
