This version of Chekhov`s first play, "Platonov", has such natural lyricism that the writer certainly would have loved it. Alexander Kalyagin, formerly a talented professor, faces the disappointment of unrealized dreams and lost yearnings over time. "Yesterday a radical, today a clown", he vents his dissatisfaction in this film, which has brilliant direction by Mikhalkov.
