In Hamelen, a typical village in Flanders, the Rolus family succeeds one another in power, from father to son. When a highway project is announced in the region, things change. One of the Rolus wants the road to bypass his property, bringing benefits to his family at the expense of the poor local residents. As a result, the leader of the opposition has the opportunity to grow politically and end the power of the Rolus.
