The documentary explores the life of Mestre Russo, a master of Capoeira, who lives at the Baixada Fluminense, in a rural suburb of Rio de Janeiro. Through the music, self-defense and philosophy of the Capoeira he has survived a life fraught with great hardship and danger. The Caretaker charts the history of Capoeira in its cultural, social and political context, told through the life experience of this remarkable man and his students.
