The last moments of former president François Mitterrand who governed France for 14 years and died in 1996. The old politician, enfeebled by cancer and with no hope, is interviewed by a young enthusiastic leftist journalist in an effort to take maximum profit from the teachings of a statesman. But Mitterrand shatters the boy?s expectations and proves pessimistic as regards the future of France. "I am the last of the great presidents. After me, there will only be financiers and accountants", says the president at one specific moment.
