A sequence to Stiller’ greatest box office success, Thomas Graal’ Best Film (1917), this, Thomas Graal’ First Child is a satire with a touch of spice, with scenes of double meaning on sex and marriage as an institution. The interaction between the main actors, Karin Molander and Victor Sjöström is seen today as a forerunner of the famous couples in cinema, such as Myrna Loy and William Powell, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, and so many others. The film begins with the matter of greatest importance, uppermost in the minds of the new couple, namely, the birth of a baby to Thomas Graal and Bessie Douglas. The parents cannot come to a consensus as to bringing up the child.
