Young Toshiko yearns for a better life. For such, she must flee her uncle, unstable Sonezaki. On her way, she meets Samehada who, clad in undergarments, is trying to escape a group of professional assassins. When Sonezaki discovers Toshiko is gone, he hires the services of Yamada, a gunman, to find her. The four bizarre characters are the protagonists of this tragic comedy that conveys a new vision of classical cinema on Japanese gangsters. "To write this film was like reading a violent, amusing manga", said Director Katsuhito Ishii, referring to the traditional Japanese comic strips.
