The medium-length film Notes for a Film about India consists of scenes to be used in a film on the story of a maharajah that, according to Indian legend, surrendered his own body to the tigers to satiate their hunger. A long time later, the family of this maharajah disappears because the members die of hunger. Pasolini’s idea was, in a poetic form, to show the development of political awareness in some countries of the Third World. The film ends with the following thoughts from the film maker: “A westerner going to India has all, but will give nothing. India, on the other hand, has nothing, but will give all”.
