When Juliette marries Jean, she moves to his boat, L’Atalante, where they are accompanied only by two crew members. Shortly after, bored by the sailing life, she disembarks in Paris to see the city’s night life. Angered by this attitude, Jean leaves, abandoning Juliette, but soon he feels guilty and longing, gets depressed, and one of the crew members returns to Paris to find her.
