David, Antonio, and Ulisses have been lifelong friends ever since they performed in a play, A Ceia dos Cardeais, the Portuguese classic by Júlio Dantas, when they were still in their teens. After 50 years, they meet one evening to commemorate their first encounter and to take a balance of their lives and, in particular, of their love life. They prove themselves whole men, free, as yet, from the vexations of senility, but closer to facing an end to themselves. The film comments with no self-pity and with humor on the drawbacks of the human condition at an age in which they are most clearly visible.
