A film divided into four parts (“Envy”, “A Grudge”, “Fear”, and “Love”) that succeed each other as from encounters in a bookstore. The sequence of episodes gradually reveals the feelings in four women at different stages of life, with the chaos of a great city as a background: Rio de Janeiro. The narrative takes place in the span of one day. In “Envy”, the director focuses on the drama of a mature woman who resents the fact she can no longer arouse male desire and begins to psychologically molest another woman. “A Grudge”, as a comedy, tells the story of an alternative psychoanalyst who sets a trap to avenge himself of a man who rejected her. In “Fear”, a teenager is molested by her step-father while her mother thinks only of furthering her own career. The plot in “Love” involves an opera singer who intends to immortalize her beautiful self as a sculpture and who eventually becomes the object of dispute between two men.
