Welcome to the fascinating story of Mexican B-movie king, Juan Orol! Raised in Cuba, Juan tries his hand at being a baseball player, boxer, racecar driver, bullfighter, secret agent, journalist and stage director before entering the world of film. He might not have an understanding of close-ups or travelling shots, but he knows what the public wants. Directing his films during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, Orol creates the tropical gangster genre, seduces his beautiful divas and obtains the title of “involuntary surrealist”. Utilizing filmmaking styles of the specific eras it depicts, the film is a love letter to a self-made man who was nearly erased from Mexican film history.
