Danny Mars is a boy of 20 years or so, a publicity agent in a small town, who sets out for Hollywood with a great smile, awesome words, and a girl, a would-be actress. When Danny meets Joe Schmolensky, a middle-aged janitor, with a passion for old films and a talent for forgery, his eyes glitter at the chance. They make up an unusual partnership. With a combination of Danny?s charm and his questionable methods of work and Joe?s rare talent, they embark on a series of hilarious, ill-fated adventures. They are exposed to a world of varying types, including a Hollywood agent, a debt collector, a secretary with few physical attributes, a Russian gangster, a director of pornography, a jealous boyfriend, an internet addict, and a TV megalomaniac executive. This is a satire on the entertainment industry, on politics, and on an obsession to get rich. To Danny, the partnership means a chance to get rich, whereas for Joe, it is an opportunity to leave off being a nobody. However, there is a price to pay.
