When Joseph falls in love with beautiful young trapeze artist, Alice, he decides he will join the Dempsey circus troupe, in an endeavor to win her. He soon perceives that the only way to make Alice notice him at all is to become a trapeze artist himself. Lord Dempsey, the scheming owner of the circus and Alice`s father, tries to stand in Josep`s path, but is unsuccessful. On the first night of Josep`s performance as a trapeze artist, however, a tragedy is to alter life for everyone.
