The bold Spanish director Bigas Luna shows the intense relationship of a young man with a woman older than him. Maria is a declining actress who tries to preserve the glamour of her glory days. Thus, she maintains an affair with Leo, younger than her, and with the young man`s uncle, who guarantees her livelihood. The relationship between them is a mix of authoritarianism, materialism, and sadomasochism. In his search for fetishistic motivations, Leo meets and falls in love with Bilbao, a beautiful woman who earns a living by prostituting herself and doing striptease in the most sordid places. As if she were an object, he wants to appropriate her.
