A swimmer, in the endless hours it takes her to cross the English Channel, recalls distinct episodes from her life: working as a hotel maid, falling in love with the wrong man, the awakening of her sexuality, swimming competitions, being exploited by others, and abandonment. The closer she gets to the British coast, the more she becomes aware that she will continue to be manipulated by others like a puppet.
