The life of a farming family is shaken by the post-war violence in Czechoslovakia. Soon after the Second World War, groups of former SS of Polish or Ukrainian origin try to reach Austria. One of the groups ends up stopping at a farm, threatening the family of Baran, a farmer who lives in an isolated region. The soldiers force him to help them under penalty of committing violence against his children. Willing to save his family, Baran decides to kill the invaders, even aware that his chances of survival are minimal.
