Sobre o filme

Several of the recurring characters of the Canadian director’ works are assembled in this bizarre drama, which takes place in the north of Russia, during the winter of 1919. The small city of Archangel, full of vaulted towers and inhabited by very weird people, is visited by a group of people during the Bolshevik’ attack. The local people seem to be having amnesia, and due to that, they don‚Äôt remember that the World War I ended three months before. The soldier John Boles is the center of this circular narrative. Just as he arrives in the city, he falls in love for Veronkha, who reminds him of his late lover, Íris. But the girl is already married to the war veteran Philbin, although she can‚Äôt remember it clearly. There, Boles tries to recover his beloved Íris, his amputated leg and his own roots. Archangel was awarded Best Experimental Film by the Canadian Critics Association.
