“Brazilian Heist” takes us inside one of the most notorious robberies of the 1980s: the heist of the Banestado bank branch in Londrina. The story is told from the perspective of Paulo Ubiratan, an ambitious journalist and radio host who, after losing his job at Folha de Londrina, goes to the Banestado branch to withdraw his severance pay, only to find himself caught in the middle of a robbery, held hostage along with 300 other bank clients. Soon, the journalist realizes the danger they all face — but also that this might be his golden chance to save his career with a sensational story. A curious tale full of twists, whose unusual unfolding reflects a country mired in hyperinflation, unemployment, and debt, where robbers and hostages have more in common than they might think.
