My name is Iawarete Kaiabi. This film is my quest — a search to understand why my people choose Christianity and abandon our traditions. More than that, it is a dive into this process through my own family, today divided between Christians and non-Christians. “The Father and the Shaman” deals, from my story, with the exploitation to which my people are subjected. Evangelical missionaries occupy the Xingu Indigenous Territory, tearing apart the social fabric of the different ethnic groups that inhabit this land.
