An animation based on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi’s autobiographical book. The story revolves around Totto-Chan, a seven-year-old girl who is expelled from her traditional school because she is considered “problematic”. She then enters Tomoe Gakuen, an innovative school founded by mr. Kobayashi, which provides an environment where children can freely explore their interests. This new space allows Totto-Chan to flourish, even amid the turbulent backdrop of World War II. During her journey, she forms a strong friendship with Yasuaki, a boy with polio, learning profound lessons about empathy and solidarity.
