At the instigation of his wife, Ubu assassinates King Wenceslas and usurps the throne of Poland. Grotesque, cowardly and blinded by power, the new king rules his kingdom absurdly and cruelly, leading it to ruin. This film adaptation of “Ubu King”, written by the French playwright Alfred Jarry and first performed in 1896, is a political satire that explores, in a cyclical way, the reality of world politics.
