In 1961, Dag Hammarskjöld had one year left as secretary-general of the United Nations. The Cold War is at its peak, and its epicenter is the newly formed Democratic Republic of Congo. Hammarskjöld takes it upon himself to create a unified and peaceful nation out of the chaos left behind by Belgium. At the same time Hammarskjöld’s life is turned upside down when an old friend unexpectedly shows up in New York. He realizes that he has missed out on an important part of life —and that it might be too late. This throws him into a battle between his sense of duty to the United Nations and a true friendship.
