Stockholm, mid-70s. Tired of living with her abusive husband, housewife Elisabeth decides to flee with her two children, Stefan and Eva, to go live at her brother Göran’s house. He lives in an alternative community, a commune, crowded by all kinds of people with very liberal attitudes.
