In a non-linear narrative —full of philosophical reflections, legends and traditions—, the jagunço Riobaldo recalls his trajectory in the backlands: his turbulent youth, the bloody experiences with the cangaço and the moment in which he assumes leadership of his group. Riobaldo is always accompanied by Diadorim, a mysterious friend who awakens complex feelings in the protagonist. Based on the classic Brazilian novel “The Devil to Pay in the Backlands”, by João Guimarães Rosa.
