A program dedicated to children, aimed at bringing young audiences closer to cinema and nurturing a new generation of filmgoers, the 2nd Mostrinha screens 14 feature films and seven shorts between October 16th and 30th, with both free and ticketed sessions.
On the 16th, the Mostrinha begins with the screening of Brazilian production "O Diário de Pilar na Amazônia", by Eduardo Vaisman and Rodrigo Van Der Put, making its world premiere at the Mostra.
The story follows Pilar, a curious and adventurous girl who travels to the Amazon rainforest with her friend Breno and her cat Samba using a magical hammock given to her by her grandfather. There, she meets Maiara, a riverside girl whose community has been destroyed. With the help of folkloric creatures, Pilar and her friends set out on a mission to reunite Maiara with her family and stop the deforestation of the forest.
The Mostrinha also features films from around the globe. Among the international films are the French film "Maya, Give Me a Title", which filmmaker Michel Gondry made for his daughter. In this animated work, Maya and her father live in different countries. To stay in touch, every night Michel asks his daughter, “Give me a title.” From her response, he creates a short animation in which Maya is the heroine. Also featured is "Hola Frida!", by André Kadi and Karine Vezini, a French-Canadian animation about the childhood of visual artist Frida Kahlo.
The Mostrinha will also present a special program of Portuguese and British short films.
The lineup includes the Brazilian premieres of "D.P.A. 4: O Fantástico Reino de Ondion", by Mauro Lima, in which the adventurous Blue Building detectives embark on another grand mission, and "Buddies and the Heir", by Marcelo Galvão, a sequel to the hit "Buddies" (2012), following a group of friends with Down syndrome.
Other Brazilian productions featured are "Creatures – An Adventure Between Two Worlds", by Juarez Precioso, which follows Stela, a girl who only believes in what she can see — or perhaps not even that — and her brother Miguel, who believes in everything, especially what doesn’t exist; "Papaya", by Priscilla Kellen, an animation about a tiny papaya seed; and "Adventures of Makunáima", by Chico Faganello, a mix of fiction and documentary about Makunáima, who transforms into an animal and reconnects with ancestral narratives experienced by children.
The 2nd Mostrinha pays tribute to comic book artist Mauricio de Sousa, who designed this edition’s poster, with screenings of two films from the Monica and Friends series: "Bonds", by Daniel Rezende, and "Lessons", by Rezende and Marina Maria Iorio, as well as "Chico Bento and the Marvelous Guava Tree", by Fernando Fraiha.
The program also includes the film from Minas Gerais "The Dionti Family", by Alan Minas, which tells the story of young Kelton’s longings and loves, and the Mexican animation “Huevitos Congelados”, by Gabriel Riva Palacio Alatriste and Rodolfo Riva Palacio Alatriste, about Toto’s mission to return an orphaned polar bear cub to its natural habitat.
This year’s 2nd Mostrinha expands its number of screenings, with 26 screens at the CEUs (Unified Educational Centers), as well as showings at Centro Cultural São Paulo, Centro Cultural Olido, and Biblioteca Roberto Santos — all part of the Spcine Circuit. Screenings will also take place at the Sala Petrobras na Mostra (located at the Cinemateca Brasileira), CineSesc, Cinesala, and Espaço Petrobras de Cinema.
