1942. In the middle of the Brazilian Northeast hinterland (sertão), two men meet: Johann, a German who fled the war, and Ranulpho, a Brazilian who wants to escape the drought ravaging the region. Traveling from village to village, they screen films for people who had never experienced cinema, in order to sell a “miraculous” medicine. Continuing to traverse the dusty roads of an archaic hinterland, they seek new horizons in their lives. On this journey, the two learn to respect their differences, and an unusual friendship emerges between them, one that will mark their lives forever.
Winner of the jury prizes for best film and best actor, to João Miguel, and the critics’ prize for best brazilian film at the 29th Mostra.
