
Born in Greece in 1973, he studied film and television direction. Since 1995, he has directed feature films, theater plays, music videos, and a large number of TV commercials. He was also a member of the creative team which designed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. He directed “Kinetta” (2005), “Dogtooth” (2009, 33rd Mostra), which won Best Film of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, “Alps” (2011, 36th Mostra), which won Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival, “The Lobster” (2015), which won the Jury Prize at Cannes, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” (2017), which won Best Screenplay at Cannes, and “The Favourite” (2018, 42nd Mostra), which won the Grand Jury Prize at Venice. The film was also nominated for ten Oscars. “Poor Creatures” (2023) won the Golden Lion at Venice and received 11 Oscar nominations, winning four. The following year he made “Kinds of Kindness” (2024), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
