
Born in Algeria in 1948. He majored in dramatic arts and his first film was “La Tête en Ruines” (1975). His filmography includes titles such as “Rue du Départ” (1985), “Gaspard et Robinson” (1990), “Latcho Drom” (1993), winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival, “The Crazy Stranger” (1997, 21st Mostra), which won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival, “Vengo” (2000), presented at Venice, the segment “Paris by Night”, from the feature “Visions of Europe” (2004, 28th Mostra), “Exils” (2004, 28th Mostra), winner of best direction at Cannes, “Transylvania” (2006), “The Outraged” (2012, 36th Mostra), exhibited at the Berlinale, “Djam” (2017), screened at the Cannes Film Festival and at the 41st Mostra, and “Tom Medina” (2021).
