
Born in Abingdon, Virginia, USA in 1970. Started his career as an actor and made his debut as a feature film writer and director with “Crazy Heart” (2009), winner of two Academy Awards: best original song and best actor for Jeff Bridges. He also wrote and directed “Out of the Furnace” (2013). “Black Mass” (2015, 39th Mostra), his third feature, was screened at the Venice International Film Festival. He then went on to direct “Hostiles” (2017), screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, “Antlers” (2021), and “The Pale Blue Eye” (2022).
