Born in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, in 1978. She graduated from a university in Yokohama before working for a year as an office employee in Tokyo. In 2002, she enrolled in the Elementary Fiction Course at The Film School of Tokyo and graduated in 2004 with the short film, “Chiemi and Kokkunpatcho” (2006). After that she independently produced her first feature film, “German plus Rain” (2007), which received a nationwide theatrical release. She also directed the feature films “Bare Essence of Life” (2009), “The Actor” (2015), presented at the Tokyo Film Festival and “Ito” (2021).
