
Richard Ladkani is a filmmaker whose documentaries tackle some of the planet’s most urgent and complex crises — from environmental destruction and wildlife trafficking to Indigenous rights and political corruption. With around fifty films to his credit as either director or cinematographer, his work spans continents and cultures.In 2015, Richard and his wife Anita founded Malaika Pictures, an Austria-based production company. In 2020, he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He directed, in partnership with Kief Davidson, “The Devil’s Miner” (2005), winner of a Special Jury Mention at the Tribeca Film Festival, and “The Ivory Game” (2016), presented at the Toronto International Film Festival. He also directed “Sea of Shadows” (2019), presented at the CPH:DOX: and awarded at Sundance Film Festival.
