
Born in Paris in 1982, Oliver Laxe is the son of Galician emigrants. When he was six years old, his family returned to Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. After completing his studies in Audiovisual Communication, he moved to Tangier, Morocco, where he self-produced and directed his first feature, “You All Are Captains” (2010), presented at the 34th Mostra and winner of the critics’ prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Laxe subsequently directed the feature films “Mimosas” (2016), presented at the 40th Mostra and winner of the grand prize of the Cannes Critics’ Week, and “Fire Will Come” (2019, 43rd Mostra), winner of the jury prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
