A filmmaker and journalist born in Boston, USA, in 1964. She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute. She, among others, the films “My Country, My Country” (2006), the first film in her post-9/11 Trilogy, which documented the U.S. occupation of Iraq, “The Oath” (2010), “Citizenfour” (2014), winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and “Risk” (2016), a character-study about Julian Assange. Her journalism exposing the National Security Agency’s global mass surveillance programs received the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed” (2022, 46th Mostra), about artist Nan Goldin, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion for best film.
