Kahlil Joseph

Artist and filmmaker who was born in Seattle, Joseph began his career working for photographer Melodie McDaniel and director Terrence Malick. He made the short films, “Until the Quiet Comes” (2013) for musician Flying Lotus, awarded at Sundance and Camerimage, and “Fly Paper” (2017), the documentary “The Reflektor Tapes” (2015) and collective film “Circus Maximus” (2023), for the Travis Scott album “Utopia”. He has also directed music videos for artists such as Kendrick Lamar, FKA Twigs, Sampha, and Beyoncé. Joseph’s work has been featured in major exhibitions worldwide, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement in Geneva, and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle. His project “BLKNWS”, a conceptual artwork conceived as a continuous, curated broadcast that reflects the richness of Black life, was first showcased at the Venice Biennale in 2019.
