Israel Cárdenas was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and Laura Amelia Guzmán was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, both in 1980. They are directors, screenwriters and producers. Together, they directed feature films like “Cochochi” (2007, 31st Mostra), “Jean Gentil” (2010, 34th Mostra), “Carmita” (2013), “Sand Dollars” (2014, 38th Mostra), “Sambá” (2017, 41st Mostra), and “Holy Beasts” (2019, 43rd Mostra). Their work was presented in film festivals like Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam, Toronto, and Tribeca. In 2023, Laura made her first solo feature film, “Babygirl” (2023), screened at the 47th Mostra.
