Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1955. She started her career as a concept and media artist. Her first feature film, “My 20th Century” (1989), won the Golden Camera for best debut at Cannes. She then directed “Magic Hunter” (1994, 18th Mostra), which competed at Venice, and it was followed by “Simon the Magician” (1999), which received a special mention at the Locarno Film Festival. After a long absence, during which she made shorts and worked for television, she returned to feature films with “On Body and Soul”, (2017), winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and nominated for the Academy Award for best international film, and “The Story of My Wife” (2021), presented at Cannes and at the 45th Mostra. She served on the main jury at the Berlinale in 1990 and 2021, at the Venice Film Festival in 2018, and was jury president of shorts at Cannes in 2024. Ildiko Enyedi is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the European Film Academy.
