
Born in New York, in 1947. He is a filmmaker and writer of French nationality and expression, who has also worked as a theater director and actor. After studying literature and art history in Paris, he founded a company, Le Théâtre de la Sapience, in 1977, with which he performed contemporary poetic theater and baroque theater, notably staging plays by Corneille and Racine. His feature film debut, “Toutes les Nuites” (2001), received the Louis-Delluc Prize for a first work. His other works include “The Living World” (2003), “The Bridge of Arts” (2004), “The Portuguese Nun” (2009, 32nd Mostra), “La Sapienza” (2014), The Son of Joseph (2016), “Waiting for the Barbarians” (2017), “How Fernando Pessoa Saved Portugal” (2018, 42nd Mostra), “Atarrabi & Mikelats” (2020) and “The Wall of the Dead” (2022). His films were presented in film festivals like Cannes, Locarno, Berlin, San Sebastián, Torino, IndieLisboa and Cinéma du Réel.
