Director, screenwriter and producer who lives and works in Palestine. She has been granted an honorary doctorate by Artois University in France for her contribution to cinema. She directed the feature films “Salt of This Sea” (2008), the first feature film directed by a Palestinian woman, which was presented in the Un Certain Regard at Cannes, “When I Saw You” (2011), screened at the 36th Mostra and awarded at the Berlinale, and “Wajib” (2017), awarded in the Locarno, Mar del Plata and London film festivals. All three of her feature films were selected as Palestine’s official Oscar Entry. She received retrospectives of her work at New York’s prestigious BAM art center and at the Toronto International Film Festival.
