
Born in Wirral, England, in 1954. He studied at Oxford, Bristol, and UCLA. His first feature film was “Sleep is for Sissies” (1980). His next film, “Repo Man” (1984), became a cult classic. After that he made feature films like “Sid and Nancy” (1986), winner of the Critics’ Award at the 10th Mostra, “Straight to Hell” (1987, 11th Mostra), “Walker” (1987, 12th Mostra), and “El Patrullero” (1991, 16th Mostra). At 70, he has made 14 feature films, three documentaries, and published six books on cinema. He claims that “Dead Souls” will be his last movie.
