
A Venezuelan film director and screenwriter whose work spans cinema, opera, and multimedia productions. His recent directorial credits include acclaimed stagings of Wagner’s “Das Rheingold”, in 2024, and Beethoven’s “Fidelio”, in 2022, for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He directed, among others, the films “A House with a View of the Sea” (2003), which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival, “Habana Havana” (2004), “To Play and to Fight” (2006), screened at the 30th Mostra, “Cyrano Femandez” (2007), “The Liberator” (2013), which was presented at the Toronto Film Festival and shortlisted for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards, and “Guaco Semblanza” (2017), a Grammy-nominated documentary. His contributions to music and film include multimedia productions such as Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2015) and the cantata “Criolla” (2010), both staged at the Hollywood Bowl.
