The region surrounding the Tapajós River is the biggest gold producer in Brazil. However, the extraction happens mostly in an illegal and predatory manner, without workplace safety, and causing damage to the environment. Prospectors, salesmen, teachers and prostitutes, from several cities and states in Brazil, meet in this region in the search for money. In Penedo, a small village created next to the prospecting areas, various kinds of violence have become part of the daily routine. Nonetheless, despite the harsh life conditions, there is still the opportunity to dream of better days.
