The times, work, loves, life and death of Portuguese writer Wenceslau de Moraes (1854-1929), who left Portugal at the end of the 19th century to seek in Japan an art of living that would reconcile the material and the spiritual. Composed in nine parts, and with strong theatrical inspiration, the film is one of the most complex works in the history of Portuguese cinema.
Presented at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival.
