STRUGGLE FOR HOPE
(YO-YO-MA, INSPIRED BY BACH)

Canada

Struggle for HopeA celebration in an unimaginable creative encounter based on 'Suite Number 5 for Cello Solo: Yo-Yo Ma with his cello, and Tamasaburo Bando, regarded as the best actor in Kabuki theater, a specialist in feminine roles.Eastern mysticism and Western rigor would seem not to match in this symbiosis of music and minimalist theater-dance. Musician and actor rehearse and debate. Communication between them is now the greatest challenge. The music and its interpretation by Bando finally spans cultural barriers. The Japanese choreography set to Bach's music results in another unique experience, sublime and poetic, in this series conceived by virtuoso cellist Yo-Yo Ma, comparable to nothing so far in the western repertoire.
