SABBATH IN PARADISE

Germany

Sabbath in ParadiseMusical semi-documentary where through the klezmer, traditional Jewish music, a panel is put together of the life of the Jews in New York in the nineties. The central characters are Jews who play on the Sabbath (the holy day for the Jewish community) in synagogues, in public performances, or even in their homes.

The film is a blend of effusive images in color of the performance of Jewish musicians with scenes in black and white of the great city on a day of chaos: with traffic confused and concrete skyscrapers.

Great names in Jewish music focused in the film include the legendary Zadik Reb Elimeylekh. The result is a living portrait of this contemporary musical production.
