THE KINGDOM ll

Denmark

The Kingdom llLars von Trier was not expecting this. The first four episodes of The Kingdom, concluded in 1994, attracted crowds of fanatics and followers familiar with the idiosyncrasies of each and every character, who cheer them on and amuse themselves with them wherever the series is exhibited, in the cinema and on television. The film was made to frighten and to frighten a great deal. It describes a hospital with ghosts of former patients. And to make the situation worse, built on ancient suspect terrain where mist is constant. In the second part of the series, the spirits gain form and the old character Drusse, the only one who knows of their existence, is run over by a phantom ambulance. And more: Little Brother is born - the Demon-Baby, following Dr Judith’s pregnancy. The pace is frantic just as in the first part of the series. In spite of everything, the hospital cannot stop.

Born in 1956. Graduated in 1983 from the School of Cinema in Denmark and is acknowledged as the most admired and creative filmmaker in his country. Inspite of the success, he is subject to a radical phobia: he will never travel by plane. He directed Nocturns (1981) and Images of Relief (1982), his graduation films. His first feature The Element of Crime (1984), shown at the Ninth São Paulo International Film Festival) was followed by Epidemic (1987) and Medea (telefilm of 1988), and Europa (1991),The Kingdom I (Eighteenth Film Festival), Breaking the Waves (1996), and The Kingdom II.
